Rt. Hon. David Idris Zacharias was born on 27 December 1972 in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area, Kogi State, Nigeria. He grew up in a community where family and service to others were central values. These early experiences shaped his commitment to community, integrity, and public service, values that continue to guide his work in public life today.

Zacharias began his education at St. Martins Primary School, Ejule, and went on to complete his secondary schooling at Community Secondary School, Ejule. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja. He also attended leadership training at the Reforming Leadership Institution in Abuja, strengthening his skills in leadership and governance.
Business & Professional Career
Before entering politics, David Zacharias built experience in business, particularly in real estate and enterprise management. He is CEO of Eden Multibiz Project Ltd, a firm focused on real estate and related ventures, and he co-founded Maina Court Facility Management Services Ltd, where he serves as Chairman of the Board. This business background has given him practical insights into project management, entrepreneurship, and community development.

Zacharias began his political career in the All Progressives Congress (APC). In 2015, he sought his party’s nomination to run for the House of Representatives but did not secure the ticket. He ran again in 2019 and won both the APC ticket and the general election to represent Idah/Ibaji/Igalamela/Ofu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
Following his victory, his election win was legally challenged by his opponent at the election tribunal, but in August 2019 the tribunal upheld Zacharias’ victory, confirming him as the rightful winner.
He was re-elected in the 2023 general elections, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented him with a Certificate of Return for the 10th House of Representatives.
In the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. David Zacharias has served on key committees, including Appropriation, Defence, Industry, Local Content, Ecological Fund, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
As of 2025 he is Chairman of the House Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, leading oversight visits and engagements to improve safety culture and standards in public institutions.
He has sponsored and supported motions and activities for improved public safety, community development, and national policy oversight, including engagements with security and immigration services on safety and health protocols.
Zacharias is known for his community support and humanitarian work. He founded the David Zacharias Foundation, a non-profit aimed at helping vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens. The foundation has provided relief during emergencies, offered scholarships to students, supported widows and orphans, and supplied materials to schools and other community groups.
He has also been involved in youth training and empowerment programmes, including skills training in agriculture and vocational trades for youth and women, helping improve livelihoods and reduce unemployment.
In times of crisis, such as the 2012 flood disaster, he provided relief materials and support to affected families across communities in Kogi State.
